Kwassen Production proudly presents the second season of Ocean Warriors, a compelling 13-episode series showcasing the courage and skill of Indigenous rescuers along British Columbia’s vast coastline. Premiering on APTN in January 2026, Season 2 continues to highlight these remarkable stories of bravery, community, and resilience, bringing the incredible work of Indigenous crews to audiences across the province and beyond.
The production company is behind acclaimed projects such as the Leo-nominated television series Tribal Police Files, which ran for three seasons on APTN, and the 2015 Leo Award-winning series Warrior Games. The company’s film credits include the award-winning documentaries Finding the Balance and Leave It on the Water. Through a strong slate of impactful storytelling, Kwassen Production has established itself as a leading Indigenous production company in Western Canada.
Kwassen Production continues to actively develop a slate of new projects and films, including Our Oceanic World and Shaping Our Future, while pursuing meaningful co-production partnerships that foster collaboration and inclusive storytelling.
Steve Sxwithul’txw
Steve Sxwithul’txw (swee-thult) is from the Penelakut Tribe located just off Vancouver Island, Canada. He was raised in the Cowichan Valley by his mother along with his 5 siblings. Steve is currently the president of Kwassen Productions / OCM Productions Inc. which is located out of his home community of Penelakut Island, BC.
Sxwithul’txw recently wrapped production on the second season of Ocean Warriors – Mission Ready, which premiered on APTN in January 2026. The new season continues to follow volunteer Indigenous mariners responding to boaters in distress along British Columbia’s expansive coastline, highlighting their everyday dedication to community safety. Through cinematic, character-driven storytelling, the 13-episode series brings the Coast Guard crews’ experiences to life, immersing audiences in the urgency and humanity of their work.
His recent body of work builds on a strong foundation in documentary storytelling. In 2024, Steve released the short film Shaping Our Future, following inmates at a local correctional facility as they work alongside master carver Tom LaFortune to carve a 40-foot totem pole – a story of mentorship, cultural reclamation, and transformation through art.
In 2022, he directed and produced the three-season series Tribal Police Files, which aired nationally on APTN. He also directed Finding the Balance, spotlighting four First Nations protecting their territorial waters off southern Vancouver Island – a film that continues to screen at festivals internationally.
Steve’s began his directing career with Leave It on the Water (2018), chronicling Indigenous youth training to compete in the world’s largest outrigger canoe race in Hawaiʻi. Earlier In 2014, Steve created the award-winning documentary series Warrior Games which was scene on APTN and CHEK on Vancouver Island. Steve hosted this multi–Leo Award winning series which highlights Indigenous sports across North America where he is taught by Indigenous youth and guided by the elders.
Steve is currently developing the six-episode series Oceanic World, a cinematic marine documentary production that journeys through the world’s most dynamic ocean ecosystems, revealing how Indigenous ecological knowledge reads the signals of ice, currents, reefs, and migration, and how long-practiced stewardship sustains them in balance. The project is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2026.
His first passion is his family which includes his 3 children Jacob, Haley and Chelsea.
LOCATION
We are based out of beautiful Vancouver Island British Columbia, but we are able to travel to wherever we’re needed.
